My Goal:
To create a design to engrave around the edge of a water bottle.
How I started:
I had to be sure the design fit the water bottle, or my design would not work out as well. Keep in mind, a water bottle is a cylinder shape, so on a 2D plain, a cylinder is a rectangle. Using the program, Adobe Illustrator, I started by creating a drawing space of 9 x 5.5". If you have a keen-eye, you will notice at this stage in my design I had the measurements in points, instead of inches. I later found and corrected this mistake.
Image Trace:
Next, I found a design of the monopoly guy and added some text to the image. After placing this image into illustrator, I used the image trace and expand buttons, in order to convert the photo into colored-lines instead of pixels. This will let me resize and move around the image as much as I'd like, without any distortion. The first image is before I used the image-trace function. The second image is after I expanded, and resized the image to fit the dimensions of the water bottle.
